Been here 5 mins, so far so good! Homemade Aguas Frescas de Jamaica y Horchata. FRESH chips and salsa (also homemade). And best yet, our CHABELA was perfectly poured at our table, very impressive! The starter salsa for the chips and salsa is delicious and can't stop reaching for the chips bowl. .... My boyfriend had the Barbacoa plate and I had the Chile Relleno with a Chicken Enchilada. Both were amazing. Being a Mexican cook myself, I can be quite critical of traditional Mexican dishes at restaurants and this place definitely exceeded my expectations. We came here because of the high, 4.5 rating and positive reviews. We are happy to contribute to that streak of positive reviews. This place is family owned and operated and is very attentive to the customers. The food was excellent, the service impeccable and the ambience was pleasant. An overall great experience.

I normally don't write many reviews but I had to this time. I had a hard time finding a place to eat in Palm springs the first day here. The second day I decided to go on Yelp and search for decent food. My picky family and I gave this place a chance ( we went to a place called Santana or something the day before... Disgusting!). This place has real Mexican food. Period. I ordered the carne asada plate. The meat was nice and tender. Meat was a 10/10 and so was the guacamole. That's it basically. Satisfied my belly ! Lol.

Very meh. there are several different types of Mexican food...this is the bland and boring kind. It's not the super-comforting Tex Mex, nor anything with flavor. I don't get why it's so popular, though the ceviche was good. The chile rellenos were fine, but I've had more flavor-able versions. The salsa had a bit of kick to it. The chicken enchilada and beef taco (and beans and rice and chips) were completely forgettable. The day after eating here I got nachos from a Baja Fresh Express and thought they were tastier than the food I got from La Perlita. I feel really sorry for the people that waited over half an hour to eat here.

I'm puzzled by the reviews. I ordered the carne asada tacos and I might as well made them at home. Tortilla meat onion cilantro that's it. The meat was ok but the tortillas were not fresh. I also had a Negro Modelo Mechelada which was boring tasted like beer clamato and lime. No flavor. On a side note the place is very clean. I won't go back it felt like a waste of time.

YUM! Had a Torta and it was Fabulous! Great service, chips and salsa. The owner even came out greeting tables and talking to customers. Thats a HUGH plus to me when they take the time out of their day to greet people. This is soon to be my new favorite Mexican restaurant in Palm Springs. Great food and Service really make it stand out. Thank you!

Yum, is probably a nice description! Enchanting place to dine-in and be amused by the murals, décor and authenticity of Mexican cuisine. We felt welcomed the moment we arrived just like visiting Grandma on Sunday afternoon. We took a seat and placed our order of Taquitos and Carne Asada Burrito. Both dishes were presentable including proportionate to the price of the meal. Chips and Salsa were delicious and fresh and walked out completely satisfied. Glad we stumbled upon this hidden gem and wanting to hold this place sacred from others it's best to partake.

Mexican food win! La Perlita is an authentic, unassuming treasure of deliciousness. It's located in a random strip mall with plenty of free parking (another win!). You'll find honest to goodness, traditional refried beans, full-flavored sauces and salsas with a kick, and just good ole' authentic Mexican food that makes you happy and totally bloated. Don't even plan on flaunting your bikini soon after. Go for the mumu chica. WORTH IT. It's inexpensive, easy, and their order-at-the-counter-grab-a-seat system makes for a great casual family lunch, free of hipsters and hungover twenty-somethings. They're nice, they're efficient, and they make great, generously sized burritos, quesadillas and enchiladas. An absolute gem!

  • Adam O.

I usually go for the tres amigos with chili relleno, taco and enchilada, but today I tried the chimichanga... WOW... They make everything here so well!

Amazing! I don't feel like I need to say much. Check out the pictures If you're in Palm Desert, this is a place to visit.

Great place. You have to try it. Food is fresh and wonderful. Very authentic. Best Chile Rellenos I've ever had by far. Chicken Enchiladas with Green Sauce were yummy and moist. Family run, Mom's in the kitchen cooking. We were a group of 6 and everyone loved their meal. I'll go back soon.

Best Mexican Food in the Palm Springs Area.. I had the trio combo and my husband had the lengua en chile verde. .everything was good..and the place is small and away from downtown area. ..Service was great! I recomend the michelada! They close at 8pm so if you are planning to dinner there plan ahead

  • Karen N.

SOOOO good!!! The location is very strip mall, but don't let that keep you away. The food is fantastic. We started with the shrimp ceviche and the taquitos. Both were good. The salsa was just okay. We had the pitcher of margaritas- they were mediocre but only $18 and was more than enough for the three of us. Then we had the chilaquiles (AMAZING!), the chile verde enchiladas, and the chile relleno. With some tamales on the side. All delicious!!! The food really is great. We wish we could have tried more things! Next time. We will definitely be back!

  • Karl S.

Ok. Saw the reviews and just had to give this place another shot. Was here a year ago and blew it off. Maybe better now? Arrived for lunch, still sits at the end of a mostly empty strip mall that is anchored by a Weed dealer and the skunk stench is still prevalent in the area. I'm sorry, but the Mexican food here is average at best. I had the famous Chili Relleno, it was pretty good, but the refried beans taste like right out of a can and the rice is bland. The chips and salsa taste store bought as well. The only plus I can see here, is its cheap.

Delicious food! Wait staff is very cordial and helpful, all had smiles. It's a small space, and their variety on desserts are limited to Flan. There is a great selection in some tasty food selections, worth a try if you're hungry for some great Mexican food! I will be back!

We stopped here on our way to Disneyland. We were seated quickly. The restaurant is clean. Our drinks arrived fast. Great customer service. The food was excellent. We had Chicken Chimichanga, Chili Rellenos and Chicken Tacos. It was so very good. We plan on stopping here next time we travel to California.

Nothing is more annoying and frustrating than looking up a restaurant, the food, pics, and you decide to drive there to find out it's closed. This will be closed for the whole month of August according to a sign on the door. I didn't appreciate driving all the way over here just to be notified on your door after I wasted my gas. They should update their information on yelp or somewhere online. Not happy

  • Christine R.

My husband and I drove in from San Diego to Palm Springs on a blistering hot day! We were craving Mexican food so I checked Yelp for restaurants. We were greeted with warm welcomes. The chips and salsa were FRESH! Yummy! We had the carne asada tacos and some icey cold beers. The owner came to talk to us for a bit, very friendly. Mentioned the restaurant would be closed the entire month of August since they will be going on vacation. We will definitely come back!!

Palm Springs has an array of GREAT Mexican food. This place did not disappoint BESIDES the fact they forgot part of our order which is why I had to knock a star. We ordered our food to go after a long shopping day in Palm Springs. We had the Taquitos, Enchilades, Tacos, Tamale, Asada, Barbacoa. Everyone seemed to like their food. It didn't take too long either.

  • Pedro J.

The costumer service at this location was exceptional. We were greeted immediately after walking in through the door and the waitress quickly took us to a table. We were really hungry and ordered the fajitas entree and a trio combo with a chile relleno, chicken taco, and chicken enchilada. The food had a lot of flavor, the fajitas were cooked perfectly, the beans with cheese were delicious, the rice had the right amount of seasoning. I like the location because it is away from a lot of businesses. I liked that the place felt authentic with Mexican sombreros hanging on the walls, with ponchos, and there was also Mexican music playing. The business is also owned by a Mexican owner so you know you're eating really authentic Mexican food. My favorite part of my meal were the fried beans. The were so delicious!

  • Ken G.

This was a nice surprise! Located in a random strip mall, not necessarily close to anything, this was hidden gem - very good Mexican food with warm and friendly service. I had the Machaca and I really enjoyed my breakfast...I also had Sopes, which were also very good. I definitely recommend this spot!

  • Hannah W.

desertsun.com/story/life… The home of the best chiles rellenos in Palm Springs is the sole restaurant in a distant, half-empty building complex-- a proud peninsula in a sea of lonely bushes and desert sand. Billboards and dirt-filled vacant lots surround La Perlita, the restaurant that serves up this classic Mexican dish.

    (5)
  • Katy W.

Enchiladas are stuffed with shredded chicken and a great sauce on top. The beef is wonderful. I ordered a carne dish with an enchilada and told them to make it spicy. It was delicious! Service wonderful, the owner came by and checked up on us. Be sure to sit by the window to see the white lizards outside :)

  • Ric W.

If you want to order a beverage/soda at this place and plan to get a refill, make sure you only get the same soda flavor! Because if you try to get something else, they will charge you for a whole new drink! (Not mentioned in menu) As far as the food goes, It's okay... But nowhere near as good as most yelp reviews claim. I have had much MUCH better Mexican food than this place. Also, are the beans from a can? It tastes like they are.

  • David W.

If you like mexican food you must go here!!!!! The food is scratch made from saucse to salsas and more. The chille rellano is amazing and the tortas are to die for. You can even choose your spice level. I will be back to here a lot.

  • George R.

My family and I went here for dinner. We had a variety of of food including tacos, burritos and nachos. All were very good. The tacos had great tasting shredded beef and were very filling. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Hubby had two Chile Rellenos dinner and I had the Carne Asada dinner, included beans and rice. The food was very authentic Mexican. Very comforting. We were there on a Monday at noon so we had our choice of tables. Sat next to a big window and had a show, two desert geckos and a road runner entertained us. We visited with the owner and he was very fun to talk to. When we got our bill he had taken care of our drinks.

You know that feeling of when you really crave a certain food from a restaurant? If chile rellenos are ever on your mind, you'll automatically associate this food with La Perlita. The service is great in this family restaurant, and it is clear the family works well together in the kitchen. Working in the Palm Springs area, I've discovered there aren't many Mexican food places with food as good as La Perlita. I've had several different plates, and they've never disappointed. Funny enough, my first experience at this restaurant, I asked the waiter what his favorite food was from their kitchen. He said, "Everything!" It's quite possible they specialize in everything. This is definitely my number one in the desert.

  • Kimmy H.

The food...Meh! I willing seek out other Mexico restaurant here in the Palm Springs area and surrounding area. Enjoy!

  • Ross R.

The food was...amazing. Really, really good. not Tex-Mex. Their homemade taco shells are fantastic and make me so happy I only live 2.2 miles away. Yes, I'm counting. Chile Relleno was one of one best I've ever had. Lacking un poquito in the ambience departmento, but I still have to give it a 5. To top it all off, the owner came over with his guitar and sang Happy Birthday to my wife. Nuff said.

Okay so I now have been here over 170 times and I love the food everything on the menu is worth trying out I recommend the camarones a la perlita my ultimate favorite also the Chili Rellenos are delicious I also recommend the burrito supreme have them put on their Diablo sauce for an extra spicy kick

Sooooo good!! Omg so good!! Stopped in because of the reviews. We are currently on vacation. It was delicious. I had the chimichanga, husband had carne asada. Only reason we were disappointed was because they don't have carnitas! *cry*. But it was great. And the service was fantastic! From what we gathered it's family owned and run. Very caring. Very polite. Great experience.

This place was amazing! It was pretty busy when we got there around 6pm on a friday. Its small but not intrusively small. Waiter was super nice. House margarita was 5$ and was all i needed. Chips and salsa come with dinner and the salsa was great and freshly made as were the chips. I ordered the chicken enchiladas which came with rice and retried beans. Everything was fresh and hot. I highly recommend asking for the hot sauce they make there. You wont be dissapointed hitting up this place!!!

Had the tres amigos and needless to say it is all gone! Wow this place is great, fast and super nice service, great food and relaxing atmosphere. Talk to the owners son and this place has been around since 2008 and going strong.

Authentic and delicious Mexican food. I would definitely recommend. We ordered the campechana and the barbacoa a chicken enchilada and an asada sope. Everything was so yummy! The service was GREAT as well. Glad we ran into this place.

Found this little spot on yelp and was pleasantly surprised! Friendly family owned restaurant - great Mexican food! Please note, open till 9:30pm not 8 based on yelp information.

Pricy and charge you for extra chips. Ordered margarita, beef fajitas and chimichanga. Food wasn't good. Beef was dry. Not sure why people gave high rating. I wouldn't come back here again.

This was the sweetest little restaurant with really amazing service and great food. The items on the menu were authentic and delicious. I appreciated the gluten free menu choices as well as the spicy items being noted on the menu. It was really great to sit and chit chat with friends.

YAY! Finally a good & CHEAP mexican restaurant to go to in Palm Springs. Ambiance: strip mall, bland Food: Excellent Service: Good People: mostly seniors, no children They have a FULL bar !!!! YAY! so besides mexican beer & margaritas, you can get other types of cocktails as well. Not bad for a mexican food chain

Awesome service..good food..carne asada tacos were really good..the meat has very good flavor..we also got the chimichanga of shredded beef..really good juicy meat..I really recommend this restaurant if your out here in the desert.

Super good Guadalajaran Mexican food! Slightly odd location that doesn't deter large crowds. Get there early or late to avoid a fairly long wait. Chips, salsa, guacamole, chile relleno, barbacoa, tamales, chili verde, rice and beans have all been tasted and are all tremendous. Good service (from the owner I think), good margaritas with what tasted mid-shelf tequila. Glad I stopped in while visiting Palm Springs!

    (4)
  • Brent U.

The food I would give 4 stars as it was really good from the chips and salsa to my girlfriends chili relleno and enchilada, and I had the barbacoa plate that was also excellent. They get 5 stars because the service was great and the owner walks around making sure everyone is happy which is a really nice touch. Everything is reasonably priced and overall im glad we came out of our way to find this place!

    (5)
  • T M.

Wonderful margaritas and fresh ingredients are one reason why my family has made this one of our favorite places to eat! The fish tacos are the best in the desert.

  • Andrew F.

Great family resturant. Wait times can be long, so make sure you plan your visit accordingly. Food is pretty good, almost great...But I'm a picky guy. My family loves it and if I didn't want it, they would tie me up and throw me in the trunk and drive there. If anyone has ever seen a CD melt inside a car in the desert, you know being tied up in the trunk is a bad thing! Needless to say, it's a normally stop for us each time we are in town. We like to call ourselves, " the out town regulars". Enchiladas are great, and shrimp ceviche is good too!

    (4)
  • Derek M.

Had great reviews. Kinda far from whatever, but I'm going from LA to Phoenix, so whatever. The salsa is decent, but I'm about 80% sure it's pace. The people are super stuck up and snobby, but that's not the restaurant's fault. Food was just....decent.... And took forever to get our bill. Not worth the trek away from the freeway. With the reviews it had, we had high expectations, but had worse and it was still edible.

    (3)
  • Leah H.

Delicious! We had the chile relleno which was the best I have ever had! The prior reviews were right about the relleno, yumm! We also had the Camarones a la Perlita so amazing! This dish of goodness does not need any tortillas or extras! I could eat these saucy shrimps everyday! And finally we shared the beef chimichanga which was also fantastic. It had that perfect crunch on the outside with juicy goodness on the inside. Exactly how a chimichanga should be! The business is family run and owned by the nicest, hard working family. Definitely a must if you are ever in the Palm Springs/Palm Desert/Coachella Valley area!

Liked it the first time. Decided to come for a second time. All I can say. Glad we did coz its as good and as authentic as expected

We are from out of state and chose this restaurant based on their excellent reviews. I am here to report the reviews were wrong - they should have been higher. The chili rellenos which are hard to find anymore were done to perfection. The chicken enchilada had a delicate sauce and the overstuffed chicken taco was crispy and delicious. The postre we chose was a flan made by the owner which was creamy and sweetened to perfection. The friendly family style staff made us feel right at home. I highly recommend la Perlita!

Been to Mexican places in LA, SD, Long Beach, north OC... pretty much everywhere. This is hands down the best sit down Mexican place I've been to. HANDS DOWN! A must visit spot every time I'm in Palm Springs from now on.

  • Steve C.

I would probably give it four stars but the service was so good I have to give it full marks. The place was busy on a Saturday night but we only had to wait a few minutes for a table, where chips and salsa were waiting. When we ordered a side of guacamole, our server helpfully asked if wanted it now, which we did, to go with the chips. The chips, salsa and guacamole were all good, and the portion of guac was very good for $2.50. I had read good things about the chile relleno, so I got a combo with a beef enchilada. The relleno was indeed really good, both the pepper and the cheese were very flavorful. The enchilada was nice, and the beans were tasty and not heavy. I would probably give it four stars but the service was so good, I have to give five. The servers were attentive and friendly. The owner stopped by to check how we were doing and seemed genuinely interested in the answer. On our way out, in a busy restaurant, we were thanked three times. Friendly but in a genuine and not overbearing way. No wonder this place is popular. Also enjoyed the views of the desert out the windows, except for the Walmart in the distance. On a down note the chairs are not the most comfortable.

First of all I'd like to say that this is one of the best finds in Cat City, I had the Asada Burrito Supreme and it was HUGE, for 7.95 you can't go wrong, tasty meat inside, smothered in a wonderful sauce with cheese. The chips and salsa are good as well, the salsa had some qualities you can't find at most places. I also ordered the Horchata, I'm a Horchata fan and I have to say, this is the best I've had anywhere. The price is right and the quality of food and customer service is above what you might expect, It was a really busy Saturday night with a line, yet I was served within 5 minutes of being seated.

    (5)
  • Daniel B.

Very good food, but the service is what makes la perlita a new favorite for my girlfriend and I. The servers were very helpful in answering any and all questions we had. They were great about refilling drinks, but weren't breathing down our necks. I ordered steak fajitas. The fajitas weren't the best I've ever had. Not to say they weren't great! My girlfriend ordered the tres amigos combination dinner. After we ate, she said "it's about time I had some good Mexican food". If that doesn't sum up la perlitas, I don't know what does.

SUPER GOOD FOOD!! (Coming from a Mexican lol!) .... I got a supreme carne asada burrito & my family got other food & we LOVED IT!! Plus chips and salsa before you eat... YUM!!! Love this place, tell all your friends and family!!!

First time diner to this universally well reviewed Mexican eatery, glad I gave it a try for lunch today. Very solid in all respects, quick friendly service by a gentleman who appeared to be the owner, tasty food, nicely presented good-sized portions, very reasonably priced but, to be fully informative to my fellow Yelpers, their location in this strip mall pretty much in the middle of nowhere, is essentially devoid of ambiance and so, reluctantly, I have to hold back that fifth star. Heroes of the meal were the Lengua (tongue) and Chile Rellenos---third dish I tried (Carne Asada) was just ok, not great. Guac and salsa were both excellent!!! All in all, if you're in the area and craving good, reasonably priced Mexican fare look no further than La Perlita---in my opinion a worthy competitor to my choice for best Mexican restaurant in the Valley, the more upscale Guillermos on El Paseo in Palm Desert which, to be fair, would have cost about 40% more so if that's a consideration for you, La Perlita certainly won't disappoint!!

    (4)
  • Jeff L.

Go. Run. Get to La Perlita if you want authentic Mexican served up by a fantastic family run business. I usually end up with a combo plate that must include the chile rellenos (stupid amazing!). Be sure to try some of the shrimp dishes as well, you won't be disappointed. On our last visit to Palm Springs, we ended up there 3x for dinner. Enough said!

Great experience here for dinner with the family! The food was delicious & piping hot. Portions massive. Service impeccable. And it is family run, which I always appreciate. The owner personally came to our table to check in & make sure the food was great. His sons were our servers. Love that! It's a bit out of the way in a random strip mall, but well worth the drive. We'll be back!

Came here while on vacation with my husband and two kids under 3. I went in got menu, went back to my car (kids were sleeping), ordered and they called me when it was ready. So nice of them to do that for us. They had our table all setup. Everything was delicious. Hubby had chile relleno, kids had chicken quesadilla and I had a chicken chimichanga. The service was just as good as the service. :) If you're in the area, stop by. You won't regret it :)

Location and decor 3 star. Expected more of a Mexican atmosphere but strip shopping center plain decor. Chili relleno 5 stars. One of the best I have had, Margarita is great 5 stars. Had the house and was perfect. Chicken enchiladas, 3 stars loaded with chicken but very mild seasoning and not allot is sauce. Beef taco, 3.5 stars. Great crunchy shell, seasoning different Value is 5 stars. Margarita only 5 bucks!

Well where should I start? Come out and try some kick ass Mexican food. Out and about and found La Perlita in the middle of no where but worth your effort to find this gem. Firstly it's clean, serves individual margaritas and some of the most kick ass awesome food. Homemade chilies Reynoso, sopes and killer lengua dishes. Prices so reasonable. Smaller menu but each item made to perfection. A must when in the Palm Springs area.

After reading the positive reviews, we were eager to try this restaurant. Often the most authentic restaurants Are in the most out-of-the-way places. The meal was a total disappointment. We started with chips and salsa. The chips were not homemade - grocery store caliber and stale. We all ordered the chili rellenos which were tasteless. There was no flavor to anything on our plates. There was no seasoning to the rice, beans or main items. The service was good, and the owner was attentive. I would have voiced my opinion about the food, but it was so totally unremarkable, I wouldn't know where to begin. It is not my nature to complain. As a culinary school graduate, I believe I am respectful and appreciative of culinary expression, but passing this food off as authentically Mexican is a travesty.

Great food, great service and based on the reviews I read hear, I can confirm its a fantastic place for dinner. Yea, its not 5 star dining but will return again based on tonights experience. Have any of the shrimp dishes is my tip.

  • Hana H.

Great, fresh food, not over salted like a lot of places. Reasonable prices, a lot of menu choices, super friendly service. The chips taste homemade and the salsa is fantastically spicy. It's a bit out of the way and I wondered why I was bothering until I started eating. I would definitely go again.

We ordered the following: Chilaquiles (with combination red and green sauce) - delicious! Barbacoa - meat was very flavorful and tender! Chile relleno - delicious, perfect size too. Carne Asada plate - really good. Micheladas were also really good. Helped cure the hangover. Must ask for the spicy salsa. It's has a good smokey flavor. The owner, Angel is real nice. He even let us sample the barbacoa before we ordered it. A must try spot when you're in the area!

My son loves this place it is good but not my favorite beans are watery and the guacamole could do without the fillers tomatoes.

Best Mexican food I've eaten in a very long time (and I live in San Diego). I got a beef taco, Chile relleno, and chicken enchilada. The beef taco was the best hard taco I've ever had. Something about the shell made it awesome. If I lived near Palm Springs I'd eat here every week.

This place is the typical hole in the wall, family run restaurant. The service is top notch. The food is excellent with good sized portions. The prices are much better than the average Mexican chain restaurant prices. I had the supreme asada burrito which was Huge! I'm totally coming back to this place and I can honestly say you will not be disappointed!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
